Recruiting Young Broadcasters of Bodhi Light Tales

【人間社 陳曉燕 Sydney, Australia報導】 2023-06-21
The 2023 Buddha’s Light Three Acts of Goodness Storytelling Event was launched on June 18. The organizers, Fo Guang Shan Nan Tien Buddhist Temple Parramatta and BLIA Sydney West 2 Subchapter held a promotion event to call for Young Broadcasters of Bodhi Light Tales at the Wentworth Point Community Market to encourage children and the public to read the stories of Three Acts of Goodness, and to promote and practice "doing good deeds, speaking good words, and thinking good thoughts".

The Three Good Stories promotion event used the English Buddhist story podcast "Bodhi Light Tales" and "Hsing Yun's Commentaries on Allegories" as the story library. Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s words of wisdom were made into story boxes for children and the public to read on site. "Bodhi Light Tales" is an English story podcast based on the Chinese collection, "Hsing Yun's Commentaries on Allegories ", launched by Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism, and hosted by the Vice President, Venerable Miao Guang.

Florence Yuen from BLIA Sydney told visitors to the stall that the Buddha’s Light Three Acts of Goodness Storytelling Event is now in its third year. It aims to encourage children to read and understand the Bodhi Light Tales, so as to cultivate right view and right thinking. This year the organizers aim to create a story sharing platform for children and to encourage story sharing among friends by calling for "Young Broadcasters".

Bowen Yang, a lay Humanistic Buddhism dharma speaker, introduced the audience to the online podcast Bodhi Light Tales. “You can listen to the wisdom of the Three Acts of Goodness Stories anytime and anywhere,” he said. He also told the story "Don't be afraid of anything" to the audience at the stall. In the story, the old lady likes to eat sugar. Regardless of her grandson's dissuasion, she yielded to her love of sugar, thinking she could get away with taking gastrointestinal medicine at the same time. The story carried the message that self-control can be gained by understanding the law of cause and effect.

On the day, BLIA Sydney continued to promote the Three Acts of Goodness Writing Activity - SDG 14 "My Ocean" to raise awareness on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 and the importance of protecting marine resources. Jack, a young participant, wrote that he vows to clean up 20 pieces of beach garbage every time he goes to the beach. Another young participant Poppy wrote, “The ocean is the home of aquatic animals. It is very sad to see the ocean being polluted by human littering”. Poppy hoped that everyone would stand up to stop such destructive behavior and help marine life protect their homeland.
